  • What are the characteristics of ceramics?

There are several advantages to using ceramics, including:

    • High dimensional stability and strength
    • Insensitivity to all alkalis and acids commonly used in households
    • Weather, corrosion and wear resistance
    • High resistance to high temperatures
    • Very good body tolerance for allergy sufferers
  • People have been using ceramics for 30,000 years

The term "ceramic" is derived from the ancient Greek word "keramos." Today, ceramics is a generic term for everything that humans and machines produce from clay and kaolin (porcelain).

All clay materials were originally solid rocks that lost their shape over time due to weathering. The resulting clay minerals, when combined with water, can be molded into the most beautiful shapes. Humans have been taking advantage of this for more than 30,000 years.

  • DHshop Who we are: Doaa & Hammam.

We were born and raised in Palestine. Traveling and exploring are our hobbies.

We are deeply interested in the ancient Palestinian heritage, which has a history spanning thousands of years. It has passed through many cultures and civilizations, the most important of which were the Roman, Canaanite, and Greek. Over the years and with the changing civilizations, the art of pottery evolved, eventually reaching the form in which we present it to you today. Pottery originated in the Greek era in 332 BC, due to human needs and primitive living requirements.

The pottery process involves several phases: First, the raw materials are prepared. The necessary raw materials consist of clay mined from specific areas in Palestine. The pottery process begins with the clay being soaked in water for a year after firing. During this time, it is stirred periodically to ferment in the water and form a soft, easily moldable dough. As much as necessary is taken out and kneaded like flour. After a year, the clay particles solidify, become more pliable, and are easier to shape and work with, just like a paste. This is how what we present to you today is created. Pottery is an important commodity for incoming tourists, and the goal is to see it flourish again. This improves the economic situation and promotes tourism in Palestine. The war in Gaza, which began in 2023, severely impacted the trade and tourism sectors in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The war affected many local pottery workshops, forcing many to close. This is how our idea was born: to import this industry to establish it in European markets and showcase our culture and heritage. We hope to spread Palestinian history and culture as widely as possible and keep this industry alive. This is why this shop (DH-Shop) was founded.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this project.
